Hey there again. Last week's assignment was small: pick a promotion, put a date on it. Hang onto that, because I want to tell you where it actually fits. I've been running promotions for a long time without ever really naming what I do, until about a year ago when I finally sat down and mapped it out. I ended up calling it Buzz to Buy. But before you picture a cash register dinging at the end of that, let me stop you, because "buy" doesn't have to mean money. Sometimes buy just means buy in. Someone showing up. Someone saying yes. Someone actually doing the thing you asked them to do. Think about what you're actually promoting this fall or winter. Maybe it genuinely is a sale, and the buy is a purchase, simple as that. But maybe your "buy" is someone joining your email list because of a holiday freebie. Or booking a call. Or showing up live for a workshop you're hosting. Or stepping foot into your storefront for the first time. Or just following, liking and sharing with a friend. None of that is a transaction, but all of it is still a yes you had to earn, which means it still needs the same groundwork as an actual sale. That's the piece I don't want you missing. Plan, which you already started last week, doesn't care whether the "buy" at the end is a purchase or a signup or someone showing up on the day. Same groundwork either way, whether you're selling a product or just trying to get people in the room. There's more to this, create and sell and the part almost nobody plans for, celebrate, and I'll get into those over the next couple emails. P.S. Reply and tell me, when you picture your promotion, is the "buy" you're going for actual money, or is it more about getting people to show up, sign up, or say yes to something? Curious which one you're picturing.

Hey there Reader, Over the last few weeks we've gone through Plan, Create, and Sell together. There's one piece left, and it's the one almost nobody actually does on purpose. Celebrate. And I don't just mean throw a little party if it went well. I mean actually stop and look at your wins, and also look at what you'd tweak next time because both of those count as celebrating. Pat yourself on the back for the work itself, not just the outcome. You showed up and you got through it, and that...
Hey there Reader, If you are on my email list... and obviously you are since you are receiving this email, then you most likely have already started a business...But if you haven't or if you know someone who has been thinking about turning their hobby into something more, I want to tell you about an event coming up. The Hobby To More Summit, a completely free online event happening October 1st–4th all about taking something you love and exploring whether it could become something more. And...
Hey there, The last few weeks in this newsletter I've been talking about holiday promotions because we need to be thinking and planning that right now. And most importatntly preparing. Reader, If you've missed any of the week, go ahead and search leranbusinessu in your inobox. Last week we went over the Create step of the process which is all in the preparation phase of launching a promotion of any kind. Today's step is the scary part for many people. Sell. Now as I had previously stated,...
