What's actually slowing you down...

Hey there,

So last week I asked if the "buy" you're after is money or just a yes.

No wrong answer there Reader, I just wanted you thinking about it before we go further. Because today's step assumes you already know what you're promoting and roughly what you want people to do about it.

Now comes the part that actually eats the most time: making the stuff.

Here's what I've noticed after doing this over and over.

The thing that burns people out isn't writing one caption or one email. It's treating every single piece like it needs to be reinvented from nothing. New idea, new wording, new everything, every single time you sit down. That's not creativity, that's just exhausting, and it's usually why the whole thing gets pushed to the last minute in the first place.

What actually works is closer to a recipe than a blank page.

You figure out a structure once, a caption format, an email opener, a layout you like, and then you just refill it with new details each time. Same bones, different specifics.

But here's the part that trips people up before they even get that far. That recipe only works if you already know your own ingredients.

Your tone, the colors you actually use, the general feel someone should get when they land on your page or see your post in their feed. If you don't know that yet, every single piece of content becomes two decisions instead of one, what am I even saying, and does this look and sound like me.

That's usually the real reason Create feels so much harder than it should. It's not that you're bad at making things, it's that you're making decisions about your brand and your content at the same time, every time.

Once you actually know your brand, tone, colors, the feel of it, this step gets so much faster, because you're not starting over, you're just filling in a shape you already know.

This is also just kinder to your actual life.

Every hour you spend agonizing over how to phrase something, or what it should even look like, is an hour you're not present for, and that's the whole reason any of this planning matters in the first place.

Create is the second piece of Buzz to Buy, and it's a big reason the Holiday Hype Kit exists at all, since half the battle is just not starting from zero every time.

So that's the recipe. Know your brand, build the structure once, then just keep refilling it. Next time I'll get into Sell, which is honestly the step most people dread the most, so consider yourself warned.

P.S. Reply and tell me what's actually eating the most time on this step for you, the writing, the graphics, or if you're honest, not even knowing your own brand's tone or colors well enough to know what you're going for yet. Whatever it is, hit reply and let me know where you're getting stuck.

Hey there Reader, Over the last few weeks we've gone through Plan, Create, and Sell together. There's one piece left, and it's the one almost nobody actually does on purpose. Celebrate. And I don't just mean throw a little party if it went well. I mean actually stop and look at your wins, and also look at what you'd tweak next time because both of those count as celebrating. Pat yourself on the back for the work itself, not just the outcome. You showed up and you got through it, and that...
